A closure notice may be on your door while Maps still says you are open. A new menu may be on your website while the booking button leads to an old page. Customers plan around the information they find.
This guide is for owners maintaining an existing Google Business Profile alongside their website. We checked Google’s official guidance on October 1, 2026. Available features and screens can vary by business category and device.
Keep one working record of your business details
Keep your business name, address, phone, regular hours, menu or service page and booking URL in one document. Add the change date and the person who checked it so another team member knows which information to use.
Google’s business representation guidelines call for the name used in the real world. Put other details in their appropriate fields instead of adding location or service keywords to your business name.
Editing requires the Google Account linked to the profile. Use the official editing instructions to find the controls. If someone helps manage it, review the owner and manager roles and assign suitable access. Each person can use their own Google Account without sharing a password.
| Information | Keep in your record | Check publicly |
|---|---|---|
| Name and contact | Current name, address and phone | The correct branch and number |
| Hours | Regular schedule and dated changes | Hours for the customer’s planned visit |
| Menu and booking | Current URLs and the person responsible | Where each button actually leads |
Separate a holiday change from your regular schedule
For a one-day closure or shorter opening day, check Google’s special hours instructions. The basic path is Edit profile → Hours → Special hours. With main hours set on your profile, select the date, enter the hours or mark it closed, then save. Google recommends confirming holiday hours even when they match your regular schedule.
If you will open in the afternoon next Monday only, check that specific date rather than changing every Monday. This is a fictional example of choosing the right scope; enter dates and times your business has actually confirmed.
If pickup or delivery has a different schedule, consult the More hours guidance and check which service types your profile offers. For an extended closure or a business closing down, consult the separate closure status instructions.
Update the visit information and booking calendar on your website too. Check each customer-facing screen rather than assuming that posting a notice in one place updates the others.
Open the menu and booking buttons yourself
A correct website address does not mean every menu, order or booking button leads to the right place. Follow the local business links guidance to review available links and select a preferred one where that option exists. Third-party links may also appear, so open each button customers can use.
Food and drink businesses can consult the menu editor guidance for menu items and links. Availability depends on the profile and how its menu is connected. Compare your website menu with the items shown on the profile and any outdated menu photos.
- Location: check that booking leads to the intended branch.
- Content: confirm the menu and services reflect what you currently offer.
- Terms: compare prices, reservation requirements and pickup instructions.
- Usability: check that the menu is readable and the booking flow can be started on a phone.
You do not need to complete a real order or reservation to check these links. If an end-to-end submission test is necessary, agree on the timing and cancellation handling with the responsible staff first.
Check what customers see after you save
After saving, revisit the customer-facing Search or Maps view. Google says it reviews edits before publishing them. If the change is not visible, check its status before repeatedly submitting the same edit.
Keep “change submitted” separate from “publicly confirmed” in your own record. For example, note when the menu URL was changed, then separately record that the new menu opened on a phone. This is an optional working method, not a Google-required form.
If a customer reports different hours, first identify the branch and screen they used. Compare your website and profile. If a Kobizmap listing also needs a correction, use the information update request.
Use these six checks whenever details change
Your selections are not saved to a server or submitted. Keep the actual change log in your business’s own records.
For the wider discovery process, read the SEO and GEO guide. For customer feedback, continue to requesting and replying to reviews.
