You have found an interesting opening, but the pay period, weekend schedule or work location is unclear. A short question before sending a résumé can help you understand what the role involves.

Use this guide to read the listing, note missing details and prepare your first message. Adapt the examples to your actual experience and availability.

Start with the date and application route

Read the posting date, work location and role together. If you see similar ads under the same company name, compare the address and job description to see whether they refer to the same opening. For an older listing, ask whether the position is still available.

Kobizmap’s external listings provide a short preview and a link to the original post. Check the original for current requirements and application instructions. You can also compare the company name and contact details with its official website.

Distinguish posts submitted by members from external previews. Publication on the board does not mean that every employment term or employer identity has been verified.

Write down the details the ad leaves open

ItemDetails to noteQuestion to ask
PayAmount, hourly or monthly basis, tips and other compensationIs the listed amount base pay?
ScheduleWorkdays, shift length and expected weekly hoursDoes the schedule include weekends?
LocationBranch, remote arrangements and travelIs the interview at the work location?
Tasks and languageMain duties, experience and when Korean or English is usedDoes the role include phone calls?

Do not assume favorable terms when they are missing. “Korean-speaking” does not necessarily mean no English is needed. Ask separately about any essential requirement, including visa sponsorship, if it is not stated.

Introduce the role, your experience and availability

Say which opening you are asking about and briefly explain your relevant experience and availability. This café example is a starting point; keep only the details that are true for you.

Hello, I saw your café job listing through Kobizmap. I have about a year of experience taking orders and handling payments, and I’m available on weekday afternoons. Is the position still open? Could you share the expected weekly hours and how to apply?

A résumé should describe your actual work history, responsibilities and reply contact. Do not attach an ID copy or banking details to an initial inquiry. After checking the recruiter and process, ask which documents are needed and how to submit them.

Pause when an offer asks you to send money

The Federal Trade Commission identifies paying for the promise of a job and depositing a check before sending money back as job scam patterns. Read the FTC’s job scam guidance for examples.

  • Upfront payment: Be alert to a demand to transfer money to receive a job.
  • Checks and repayments: Do not use a supposed employer’s check to buy equipment or gift cards, or forward money.
  • Identity checks: Confirm the opening using the company’s official contact, rather than relying only on links in a message.

You do not need to rush into sending documents when the terms are unclear or answers conflict. Suspected fraud can be reported through the FTC’s reporting site.

Keep a short record of each opportunity

Record the company, role, pay basis, schedule and date of contact. This makes it easier to compare offers without mixing up the details. Once an interview is arranged, save the contact person’s name and meeting address.
